Opera / An essential experience.
Performing opera repertoire provides a deep musical and intellectual experience.
About
Performing opera repertoire provides a critical element in the training, understanding and appreciation of the full range of classical repertoire that is often overlooked in the musical training of young players.
BYSO is the only youth orchestra in the US to perform full-length operas. For 15 years, under the direction of BYSO Music Director Federico Cortese, we have presented sold out opera performances.

Family Operas
Every other year BYSO presents Family Operas in Partnership with Boston Symphony Orchestra. In 2014, as part of BYSO’s ongoing partnership with the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), “BYSO/BSO:Partnering for the Future”, BYSO and BSO began presenting family operas, attracting thousands of young children and their families, and new generations of opera lovers with performances of Mozart’s The Magic Flute in 2014 and 2019 and Rossini’s Cinderella in 2016 at Symphony Hall.
Give today, support their future.
Your generosity fosters the courageous minds of tomorrow.
