students and impact, while also opening the doors of the BYSO Youth Center for Music to our communities
About / Spring Fanfare Schedule of Events
2pm-3:30pm - Percussion Instrument Playground
Egozy Rehearsal Room (1st Floor)
Shake, rattle, and roll with students from the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras! BYSO students will lead a Percussion Instrument Playground, showing kids how to play a variety of instruments such as timpani, cymbal, and xylophone. Kids can then join our impromptu percussion ensemble with a shaker or tambourine of their very own. Activities are ongoing from 2pm to 3:30pm so stop by any time—it’s free for the whole family!
2:15pm-3:15pm - Chamber Music Performances
Federico Cortese and Catherine Weiskel Auditorium (2nd Floor)
Designed to musically engage and challenge students of all ages, the BYSO Chamber Music program places 2-6 musicians from the same orchestra into small groups to receive personalized attention of a dedicated coaching staff as well as the opportunity to collaborate closely with other musicians. Come hear a selection of ensembles perform and learn more about BYSO’s summer ChamberFest program, a public 5-day summer intensive chamber music program for intermediate to advanced string players and pianists, ages 8-18.
2pm-5pm - Student Instrument Demonstrations
Practice Rooms (2nd Floor)
Visit with current BYSO students as they show off their instruments—from violin to trumpet to clarinet and more—and share stories from their BYSO journeys.
3pm-4pm - Play a Baby Violin!
Practice Rooms
Are your little ones interested in playing an instrument? Bring them to try a baby violin! One of our senior orchestra members will have a 1/8 size violin for small kiddos and will guide them on how to hold the instrument and how to make a sound.
3:30pm-4pm - Dalcroze Workshop
Federico Cortese and Catherine Weiskel Auditorium (2nd Floor)
Dalcroze Eurhythmics, sometimes called “Music through movement,” nurtures musicality, creativity, imagination, and expressivity. Students learn to listen for rhythm, pitch, harmony, and more, using body movement, voice, and instruments to respond. Join us for an introductory workshop ahead of our second summer workshop at the BYSO Youth Center for Music. Registration is currently full but you are welcome to observe the class with your family.
If you’d like to place your child on the wait list to participate, please fill out this registration form and you will be notified should a spot become available. No sign up is needed to attend and watch the workshop.
4pm-5pm - ICP Winds Info Session and Performances
Egozy Rehearsal Room (1st Floor)
Interested students and families are invited to learn more about our Intensive Community Program during an information session! ICP will recruit winds students in grades 2-5 (as of September 2025) starting this fall. This session will also include performances by students in ICP and an opportunity to speak with staff at the program.
